LES SAVY FAV. I don't know how Les Savy Fav have been written out of the story. They're a Brooklyn band that were around since the mid-90's, were a key influence on all the early 2000's New York dance-punk and punk-funk bands, and still occasionally make music together. They're still my absolute favourite out of all of them. Go Forth and Inches are still two of my all time favourite records. Fuck you if you don't like Les Savy Fav. Even if you've never heard them. Because you should have.

I think “dance punk” aka post punk, is really just a non-appropriating version of reggae. It’s a similar movement. Almost in every way. Half the time it’s the same people playing reggae who are playing “dance punk”. It’s just a sorta different atmosphere. If reggae is for the Leo. Dance punk is for the Cancer. Kinda thing. We’re good friends we just wanna hear something a little different for a moment. Actual “disco” involves a lotta Latin influence. That’s why disco is actually really freaking cool when you really get into the genre.

Check out The Undoing of David Wright. “Dance Punk” has much more to do with Dub than disco. Imo

This is nothing new. Lol. I’ve been trying to start bands like this for 20 years. I founded The Perfect Pages in like 2006. And we played a few shows. We were f$cking crazy.

I think Idles are abysmal

As you've said Rock can live on, but it cant be the same. Sure, anyone can make anything they want, but if everyone makes stuff that sounds like its 50 years old then there is no innovation. Same thing happened to pop, its not the same as Whitney Houston or ABBA anymore, is it? Things died because things stopped changing. I guess we collectively decided that there were no new good possible changed to rock after grunge and nu metal. Until something sounds fresh, there wont be a resurgence. Jazz could only come back in the form of jazz fusion, and as much as I like it, it will likely never be popular again save for a couple of songs.

Dude tosses references around without a care in the world as to whether they apply or not. They say "you can't make this stuff up", but oh contraire yes you can.

also happening now within the post-punk but also separated is the "darkwave/goth revival" with bands from Fabrika Records seal, Twin Tribes, Molchat Doma, This Cold Night and many more, their sound is based around on the likes of Joy Division and Sister of Mercy.

I like their less popular music but pop can’t be understated, most pop music now is bland but would be considered alternative 20 years ago. The goal is to make an indie song so good it becomes the new pop.

Screw labels like "pop." The big three are just freaking amazing sounding songs. What does it have to do with all that bs like selling out? Just make beautiful sounding music. And beauty is catchy.

I went to their concert in Tampa in 2022 (cause it was the closest to my hometown). They are anything but losing popularity.

They were never THAT relevant. They had like, a hit song. But also as an Oklahoma City native who has been to a lot of parties, I can confidently say that they don't deserve it, simply because Wayne Coyne is a REALLY terrible person.

I was blown away when I first heard them on the radio. Been a fan ever since. Do love that they are retro rock.

All good refs. Forgetting The Pop Group tho. Also, modern wise, Gilla Band is notable. Or Marie Davidson's Work. But if you're looking for something really really under appreciated and unfortunately slept on, should check out De Lux. Their album Voyage is a banger, from 2014. And they put out a 29 min dance punk song last year that's unbelievable, called Love Is Hard Work. Also, lots of good NY acts forming right now like Fcukers, or The Dare.

I'm surprised that DZ Deathrays didn't come up in this video, either in a mention or just a clip.
